EU-China R&D Projects

49 projects with Chinese participation, including 105 Chinese partners, were successful in FP6 Calls in the field of ICT. A list of these ICT projects addressing R&D cooperation between Europe and China is listed on an external website. By these projects the interplay between research and policy in ICT Research Area has strengthened, and both the EU and China have mutually benefited from each other in the present globalization world.

One of the main milestones in the development of EU-China ICT cooperation was the successful organisation of the "2002 EU-China Cooperation Forum on the Information Society" (EuroChina2002), held in Beijing in April 2002. This event benefited from high media visibility and from major political support, and attracted over 750 European delegates, 170 European exhibiting organisations and 12000 visitors to the European IT exhibition. In 2007 and 2008 SPICE will organise events to further awareness of research and industry, and to inform the Chinese ICT experts on FP7.

In the previous Framework Programme FP5 a total of 10 projects including 19 Chinese partners (some Projects counting several Chinese partners) have been launched.

More projects addressing EU-China cooperation in the ICT area are of course expected to be lauchned under FP7. The "international dimension" is an integral part of ICT in FP7 and organisations from socalled "third countries" (countries that are not associated with FP7) are invited to participate in the programme. China has become the first "third country" in terms of participation in IST Calls. More information on the opportunities for FP7 projects and support through SPICE project is described in the SPICE Project Services section.

A service to facilitate partners searches for FP7 ICT projects is the "Ideal-ist" network ("Your worldwide ICT Support Network"). The cooperation with ICT National Contact Points and other national contacts / relay organisations allows Ideal-ist to disseminate the partner searches through a broader network of potential partners.
