Chinese Industry

The past 20 years witnessed a significant contribution of ICT to China's rapid socio-economic development. Extensive ICT applications in the industrial and other sectors has effectively promoted the growth of China's economy and the development of all social undertakings in an all-dimensional, coordinated and sustainable manner. China has opted to embark on a new road to industrialisation by adopting a policy of letting informatisation drive industrialisation and in turn the latter facilitates the former.

Through the SPICE project, Chinese ICT players in sectors including manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, medical equipment and agro-food as well as financial services, media, etc. are able to benefit from the cooperation and communication with European counterparts. It can further link China's ICT industry and SMEs with the European market and thus help promote the awareness of China's recent ICT development and competence in many developed European countries. Synergies will be sought with the impact of the SPICE project as well as its added values derived from the in-depth discussions and dialogues between Chinese and European ICT organizations during the project.

SPICE offers contacts to experienced partners working in the same technology fields in China. Cooperation might be funded as research projects in the Framework Programmes of the EC. As basis for China-EU-cooperation, SPICE will present the hurdles, barriers, and cornerstones that need to be addressed to engage successfully in R&D collaborations with Europe.

SPICE will organize a number of promotional events including S&T exhibitions and multilateral/bilateral workshops to highlight the existing ICT cooperation and stimulate this cooperation towards a higher level. S&T exhibitions will be useful for the demonstration of past and existing excellent EU-China activities. Online services and promotional materials such as newsletters, leaflets and posters will reach thousands of Chinese and European companies and research organisations.

Chinese R&D actors who are cooperating with Europe already, are welcome to contribute to the analyses of SPICE on finding the most prosperous ICT sub-areas for EU-China research cooperation initiatives. The SPICE results will then contribute to the strategy of the European Commission to foster EU-China R&D collaboration.
